Dr. Ng Wei Yan was featured in The Straits Times for his contributions to discussions surrounding the future applications of blockchain technology within healthcare.

As interest in blockchain continues to expand beyond the financial sector, healthcare institutions are beginning to explore how the technology may support more secure, patient-centred, and interoperable systems of care. At SingHealth and the Singapore National Eye Centre, Dr. Ng has been involved in ongoing efforts to examine potential healthcare applications of blockchain technology, particularly in areas relating to medical data management and digital healthcare innovation.

The feature also highlighted broader collaborative initiatives within Singapore’s healthcare ecosystem, including pioneering blockchain-related projects led by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

While acknowledging that significant challenges remain — including interoperability, governance, security, and regulatory considerations — Dr. Ng believes the long-term potential of blockchain in healthcare remains promising.

He also expressed appreciation to mentors and collaborators who have supported his journey in healthcare innovation and research, including Professor Daniel Ting and Professor Wong Tien Yin.
