Who is this for?
Patients aged 18 and above who are considering refractive surgery (SMILE Pro, LASIK, or ICL) to correct myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism.
What does it help look out for?
Assesses suitability for each type of surgery – looking out for thin or irregular corneas (keratoconus), unstable refraction, severe dry eye, untreated retinal pathology, or inappropriate pupil size. It also determines which surgery type is safest for you.
Visual acuity
Checks uncorrected and best‑corrected vision.
Refraction (manifest +/- cycloplegic)
Determines your stable, true prescription. Two separate refractions are often performed to ensure consistency.
Tonometry
Measures intraocular pressures to rule out glaucoma.
Sirius (3D anterior segment tomography)
Our latest iCare portable system reduces anxiety and provides gentle measurement of intraocular pressure to help rule out conditions such as childhood glaucoma.
Binocular vision assessment
Ensures no significant squint or alignment issue that could worsen after surgery.
Anterior segment examination (slit lamp)
Checks for dry eye, corneal scars, lens clarity, and signs of inflammation.
Dilated retinal examination
A full view of the peripheral retina to detect any holes, tears, or degenerations that would need treatment before surgery.
Optional additional tests (not included in $100 screening, but may be advised):
Pupillometry
Measures pupil size in dim light to reduce risk of night glare.
Axial length and ICL sizing
Specifically for ICL candidates.

Precautions before refractive screening (especially contact lens cessation)
To obtain accurate measurements (especially corneal shape and refraction), contact lenses must be stopped before the screening.
Why is this important? Contact lenses temporarily alter corneal curvature and tear film. Failing to stop wearing them can lead to inaccurate measurements, potentially causing a poor surgical outcome or rejecting a suitable candidate.
Other precautions before the screening appointment:
Do not wear eye makeup on the day.
Arrange for someone to drive you home if you will have dilating drops (blurred vision lasts 4–6 hours).
Bring your current spectacles and any previous eye records.
