Cataract Symptoms & When to Seek an Assessment
Cataracts can develop gradually, and changes in vision may become noticeable over time. Some common symptoms include:
Blurred, cloudy
or hazy vision
Colours appearing less
clear or vibrant
Increased sensitivity to
bright lights or glare
Halos around lights,
particularly at night
Difficulty seeing clearly
when driving at night
Changes in vision despite wearing
glasses or contact lenses
These changes may affect everyday activities such as reading, using digital devices, driving or recognising faces. However, similar symptoms can also be associated with other eye conditions.
If you notice changes in your vision, an eye examination can help assess your eye health and determine whether cataracts or another condition may be contributing to your symptoms.

Cataract Treatment Options
Cataract treatment depends on the severity of the cataract and how it affects your vision and daily activities.
When cataract surgery is recommended, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).
Common Intraocular Lens Options
-
- Provide clear vision at a selected distance, such as distance vision.
-
- Correct astigmatism in addition to addressing the refractive needs of the eye.
-
- A type of multifocal lens designed to provide vision across distance, intermediate and near ranges.
-
- Provide an extended range of vision, particularly for distance and intermediate viewing.
The choice of IOL depends on factors such as your eye health, vision, existing prescription, lifestyle and visual needs.
Dr Ng Wei Yan will guide you in selecting the most appropriate lens for you based on your individual assessment and visual requirements.
Cataract Surgery Costs

The cost of cataract surgery can vary depending on the treatment provided, the type of IOL selected and other factors related to the procedure.
